The Kitchener Stitch for reverse stockinette
Tricot / Knitting

This technique is usefull to join 2 pieces that are still on the needles, creating a new row of stitches.

Hold the needles parallel in your left hand, the 2 pieces facing out, and hold the tapestry needle in your right hand.

SET UP STEP (repeat only once)

A - Pass the yarn in the 1st stitch of the needle that is the closest to you as if to knit, and leave it on the knitting needle.

B - Now pass the yarn through the 1st stitch of the knitting needle that is the farther from you as if to purl, and leave it on the knitting needle.

REPEAT THE NEXT 4 STEPS AS MANY TIMES AS NEEDED TO SLIP OFF ALL THE STITCHES

1 - Pass the yarn through the 1st stitch of the closest needle as if to purl, and slip the stitch off the needle.

2 - Pass the yarn through the 1st stitch of the closest needle as if to knit, and leave it on the needle.

3 - Pass the yarn through the 1st stitch of the farther needle as if to knit, and slip the stitch off the needle.

4 - Pass the yarn through the 1st stitch of the farther needle as if to purl, and leave the stitch on the needle.

Repeat those 4 steps until the last stitch is slipped off. It is very simple if you have a « grafting mantra » :

purl knit, knit purl... purl knit, knit purl...

purl knit, knit purl... purl knit, knit purl...
