Stupendous Stews, Savory Soups, and Scrumptious Sauces
Before the pet food recall, I was a big advocate of well-made dry cat food, Known as kibble. Kibble helps keep your pet's teeth clean, offers the vitamins and minerals needed in a daily diet, and is fairly inexpensive as the bulk portion of a meal. I still feed commercial kibble to my pets, although i choose carefully.
I have never been a proponent of the canned
pet foods and premade gravies on the market, however. This is where homemade
soups, stews, and gravies come into play. If your cat loves wet food, you will
find some wonderful and easy recipes in this chapter to replace the moist canned
food you may be feeding now.
Although the directions I give are for cooking on the stovetop, all the recipes
in this chapter can be prepared in a slow cooker. Almost every recipe in this
chapter, with only a few exceptions, freezes beautifully in single-serving
portions and will last anywhere from 1 to 3 months in the freezer. The recipes
you can't freeze will keep for at least a few days in the refrigerator so that
you can cook once and feed your cat several special meals.
