Button hole
Knitting - Basic Techniques
Because knitted fabric is stretchy, it’s not necessary to make a buttonhole exactly the size of the button. Generally, when working in single-rib garter stitch, or seed stitch, working a yarn over followed by knit 2 together will be fine. There’s no need to reinforce the hole; just use it as is. (Also see Attaching Buttons, facing page.)
