Object of the Game
The goals of Unlur are different for both players:
The player who plays with black stones wins if he forms a "Y", i.e. a chain of adjacent black stones connecting three non-adjacent sides of the board.
Corners are considered to be the part of both adjacent edges.
The player who plays with white stones wins if he forms a "Line", i.e. a chain of adjacent white stones connecting two opposite sides of the board.
Corners are considered to be the part of both adjacent edges.
Black "Y" |
White "Line" |
If one of the players makes the opponent's goal he loses, unless he makes his winning condition at the same time.
No draws are possible in Unlur.
Play The game begins with an empty board. Since White's task is much easier, the game starts with a balancing phase in order to equalize the chances.
During this phase both players take turns placing black stones on any empty cell of the board until one of them passes. During this phase the stones cannot be placed on the edges of the board.
When one player passes the other player becomes white and he has to make white's first move. After this phase, players moves alternatively placing a stone of their color on any empty cell of the board.
