With 4.5 mm needles - or the right size to get a sample of 20 sts & 29 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm (4 x 4) stockinette stitch with 2 strands of yarn.

Instructions:
Cast on 92 [100 116] sts in 2 strands of CC1.
Place marker and join for working in the round being careful not to twist.
Cuff (2/2 Rib):
R1 to R4: *k2, p2* repeat to the end of round slipping the marker at the beginning of every round.
R5 to R7: same as R1 with CC2
R8 to R11: same as R1 with CC1
Shape:
Join MC.
For children size only, knit to the end of round, distributing 4 M1.
For women and men size knit without increasing.
You now have 96 [100 116] sts.
Pattern (4 sts repeat on 8 R)
R1: * k3, p1; repeat from * to end.
R2 to R4: k all sts. R5: k1, * p1, k3 * repeat from the * to * knit to the last 3 sts, p1, k2
R6 to R8: k all sts.
Repeat these 8 R three more times for all sizes.
Knit 5 rounds in pattern (for men size only, add 1 st at the end of the last round.)
Start decreasing as follow:
